East Lansing, MI
Rebecca Lynn Roehm (nee Boehme), 75, passed away on March 20, 2019 surrounded by her family and under the care of hospice without pain or suffering from the effects of Alzheimer’s Disease. She was a resident of Vista Springs – Timber Ridge Memory Care in East Lansing, where she had resided for one year after moving from the family home in Rockford, MI. Known to her family, friends and loved ones as “Becky”, she was born on June 12, 1946 in Port Arthur, TX to Bernard & Besita Cion (Vizuette) Boehme. Surrounded by a large and loving family full of life, Becky attended Thomas Jefferson High School and graduated in 1961 before going to business school. Becky met her one and only true love, Carl Louis Roehm, Jr., at a church social, and they were married September 12, 1964 in Port Arthur, TX. After a few years in Knoxville, TN where she worked as an airline stewardess for Delta Airlines, Becky and Carl moved their family to Sugar Land, TX where they lovingly raised their two children, Peter and Jennifer. They became members of Faith Lutheran Church where Becky also worked as the church secretary. She later worked at Mazda Motors. At both places, she discovered her skill and passion for the art of cartooning, and spent years drawing and creating in this format. In 1986, Becky and Carl relocated their family from Sugar Land to Grand Rapids, MI due to work. Becky continued working as a secretary and cartoonist before finally retiring in the early 2000's. Besides her family (especially her grandchildren), Becky’s true love was her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, with whom she had a deeply close and personal relationship until the time of her death. Becky was an avid student of the Bible and the teachings of the Lord, and lived her life as a reflection of that. As a daughter, wife, mother and grandmother, she truly lived humbly and selflessly, always putting all others before herself. Her bright shining smile and heart of gold will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
Becky was preceded in death by both parents and her loving husband of almost 42 years, Carl, who passed away unexpectedly on July 6, 2006. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Peter and Ashley Roehm; grandchildren, Reno and Ryder of Alamo, CA; daughter, Jennifer (Roehm) Deja of Grand Ledge, MI; and brother, Lester Boehme of TN.
In joyous celebration of her life, a memorial gathering will be held 4-7 PM Saturday, May 11, 2019 at Becky’s favorite restaurant, Blue Water Grill, 5180 Northland Dr., NE, Grand Rapids, MI 49525. Drinks and appetizers will be served at this festive event to celebrate her most cherished life.
