After a long and courageous battle against kidney cancer Raymond "Ray" Anthony Mikelonis died peacefully at his home on September 12th, 2020 in Haslett, MI at the age of 68.
Ray was born on October 8th, 1951 in Jackson, MI to Raymond and Gabriele Mikelonis. He graduated from Michigan State University in 1973 with a degree in microbiology and public health. He married Anotnia Sanchez 6 months after being set up on a blind date by her sister and friend. Over the next 8 years, the couple welcomed 3 children into their home. His children remember him as a funny, passionate and unique individual who showed his love to others by preparing amazing food and inviting all sorts of friends and family over for dinner over the years.
Ray held various sales jobs throughout his lifetime, following his passion to ultimately work in sales promoting health and nutrition products.
Ray is survived by his wife, Antonia Mikelonis; children, Alejandro (Stephanie) Mikelonis, Gabriela (Alexander) Blank, Elena (Timothy) Athans; siblings, grandchildren Timothy Athans and Grayson Ertle, mother Gabriele Mikelonis of Stockbridge and siblings Joseph Mikelonis of Mason, MI, Thomas Mikelonis of Stockbridge, MI, Peter Mikelonis of Rochester, MI, Mary Perkins of Vancouver, WA, and Rita Smith of Highland, MI. He is preceded in death by his father, Raymond Mikelonis of Stockbridge, MI.
A closed viewing and funeral service will be held at Gorseline Runciman Funeral Home EAST LANSING CHAPEL scheduled for Wednesday, September 16th, 2020. A short burial service will be held at East Lawn Memory Gardens in Okemos, MI will be at 2:15 p.m. with a reception following at his daughter Gabriela’s home in Haslett, MI. All are welcome to attend the burial and reception. Pastor Bob Wessels of Trinity Church will officiate the ceremony. The family would like to thank McLaren Hospice for their support and efforts in his final weeks.
