Patricia Carol Nelson

Patricia Carol (Pope) Nelson passed away peacefully surrounded by family on September 28, 2024, at the age of 90. Pat, as she was affectionately called, was born on July 11, 1934, to Frank and Norine (Lavelle) Pope in Grand Rapids, MI. Preceded in death by the love of her life and husband of 62 years, Robert Lee Nelson; her parents, Frank and Norine Pope; and her brothers, James and John.

Pat was a loving wife, mother and grandmother and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. She had an unwavering faith in God and was a pillar at Saint Gerard's Catholic Church where she and Bob were members since 1967. Pat was very active in her church for most of those years, giving selflessly to the Prayer Shawl Ministry, the Rosary Guild, Shared Pregnancy Project and more. Her kids attended St. Gerard's school. She was able to stay at home raising her children until they were older, when she went to work for the State of Michigan Treasury Department for almost 20 years.

Pat’s family and friends were always important to her and when Bob retired they enjoyed wintering in Florida for 20 years – making many new friends. They both loved to travel and had many adventures together. They were truly a match made in heaven!

Pat is survived by her five children, Carl (Jenifer) Nelson, Cathleen (Nicholas) Schrauben, Daniel (Greta) Nelson, Mary Jo (David) Fedewa, and Pamela (Robert) Jones; 13 grandchildren, and 10 great grandchildren. Pat is also survived by two sisters, Mary Lee Reavis, Lynne (Carlos) Sanchez, and sister-in-law, Sharon Pope.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made to St. Vincent DePaul, St. Gerard's Chapter. In accordance with Pat's wishes, cremation has taken place and a Celebration of Life will take place on November 12, 2024 at 10:30 am at St. Gerard Catholic Church, 4437 W Willow Hwy. Lansing, MI 48917. The family will receive friends prior to Mass. A private family interment will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.
