Preacher Green loved his family deeply, and they all knew it. Over forty of Dr. Green’s family are involved in full time ministry as pastors, evangelists, assistant ministers and instructors in religion.
Don Green graduated from Elsie High School, received a bachelor’s degree from Bible Baptist Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas, a Doctorate from Luther Rice Seminary in Georgia, and a Doctor of Divinity from Midwestern Baptist College, in Pontiac, Michigan.
Upon graduation from seminary in 1949, Dr. Green pastored the First Baptist Church of West Branch, Michigan, for four years. He then served as the pastor’s assistant & general Sunday School superintendent of the great Berea Baptist Church in Jacksonville, Florida, for almost two years. He then came with his wife and three boys to Lansing, Michigan, in August of 1955 and pastored Parker Memorial Baptist Church for sixty-two years. The impact of Dr. Green’s ministry in Lansing reverberated from the homes of the unknown, through a city-wide bus ministry that brought 1,000s of underprivileged children to hear the Gospel; to the halls of the Capitol in Lansing, as politicians sought votes and the occasional mayor that visited Parker over the decades. Not only did he pastor Parker Memorial, but he traveled extensively in revivals and conferences across America. He took one trip that circled the globe preaching in various nations where missionaries the church supported served. He made dozens of trips to many countries preaching the Gospel of Christ to unnumbered churches and in evangelistic crusades. After becoming Pastor Emeritus in 2017, he continued to preach in various places until his health began to deteriorate.
In the 1970’s, under Dr. Green’s direction, the church began a large printing ministry printing Bibles in various languages, Christian books, and other helps to promote the Gospel and reach souls for Christ. God has blessed this endeavor with literally millions of pieces of literature, New Testaments and whole Bibles constantly being sent to the world.
Dr. Green also enjoyed deer hunting, the Detroit Tigers baseball and dessert! He enjoyed humorous stories and could tell them from his vast memory bank. He loved his family, friends and faith flock. His extensive prayer list and hours spent in the divine activity are legendary and to the benefit of thousands.
