In November 1963, Michael married the love of his life, Shirley Chapman, at St. Mary Cathedral in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Together, they built a life filled with love and family.
Michael proudly served in the United States Army during peacetime. Following his service, he dedicated 33 years to Oldsmobile before retiring. He was an active member of the Knights of Columbus and the American Legion and found fulfillment in volunteering by delivering mail with Sparrow.
A devoted family man, Michael is survived by his children, Karen Alling (Clark) and Laura Carbary (Kevin); grandchildren Kimberlie Alling, Michael Alling, Justin Carbary, and Kylie Carbary; great-grandchildren Lillianna Garnsay and Emersyn Alling; and siblings Rosemary Blashill and Norman Burns. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Shirley, his parents Owen and Bernice Burns, and siblings Jean Ann Schafer, Ronald Burns, Carol Burns, and Betty Burns.
Michael was known for his patience, optimism, and unwavering happiness. A proud MSU Spartan fan, he found joy in cheering for his team and spending time with those he loved.
In honor of Michael’s memory, donations may be made to the American Heart Association. His kindness and dedication to family will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
A visitation for Michael will be held Wednesday, February 19, 2025 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes, 900 East Michigan Ave, Lansing, MI 48912. A visitation will occur Thursday, February 20, 2025 from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM at Cristo Rey Church, 201 W Miller Rd, Lansing, MI 48911, with a funeral service directly to follow.
