Delta Township
One of our Lord's most faithful servants went home to be with him on January 22, 2016 at the age of 87. Martin was born May 13, 1928 in Lansing to Joseph and Elizabeth Kuchar.
He graduated from Eastern High School in 1946. Martin continued his education at Michigan State University, where he was a member of the Delta Chi fraternity, and graduated from the College of Business in 1950. Martin married the love of his life, Gwen, on April 14, 1951. Martin then served our country as a Captain in the United States Air Force and while stationed in Germany he began one of his life-long hobbies, collecting Hummel figurines. He was a loyal employee of the General Motors Corporation, working for Oldsmobile/B.O.C. division in Lansing for 42 years and retiring in 1993. Martin and Gwen were charter members of St. Gerard Church, where he served for many years as an usher and faithfully supported his parish for his entire life. He was proud to honor his Czechoslovakian heritage and continued his father's tradition as a member of the Czechoslovakian Society of America. Martin faithfully attended annual Kuchar reunions with relatives in Owosso, MI, re-learned Czech language upon retirement, and always enjoyed listening to true Czech polkas. Martin was devoted to his family, and adored his wife Gwen, whom he lost in 2007 after 56 years of marriage. He selflessly gave of himself, and spent his life being the perfect role model for what a loving husband and father should be. Martin loved spending time with his family, whether it was bowling, swimming, or working on a home improvement or automobile project. His favorite past-times included bowling, traveling throughout the U. S. and abroad, home improvement, and watching his favorite sports teams, like MSU football, MSU basketball, and the Detroit Tigers.
Martin was a beloved father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Words cannot express how much he will be missed, by his children, Dianne Noelp, David Kuchar, and Dawn (Fran) Brogan; his grandchildren Tiffany Kuchar (James Law), David Noelp, Frannie Brogan, Connor Brogan, Erin Brogan, and Taylor Brogan; and his great-grandchildren Matthiew Law, Makailey Law, Marshial Law, and Zavier Noelp.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Elizabeth Kuchar, his beloved wife, Gwen Kuchar, his brother, John Kuchar, his sister, Rose Krapek, and his son-in-law, Matthew Noelp.
Martin was a perfect example of God's love, always willing to give his time to help his family and friends, always demonstrating the Lord's forgiveness and mercy, and most of all, loving his family unconditionally.
