I only met my aunt in person a few times, but one in particular has stuck with me my entire life. Aunt Marla was incredibly kind and gentle and loved the Lord entirely. My family had taken a road trip from Texas when I was fairly young. While we were there we stayed with Uncle Dan and Aunt Marla at least one night. She blew up an air mattress for my sister and I to sleep on, the foot of it faced a very large window with beautiful scenery. She asked to pray with us before we went to sleep and we agreed. I remember feeling overwhelmingly loved and at peace in a place I’d never been with people I hardly knew. She was one of the most loving and joyous people I’ve ever met! 

I'm so glad I had a chance to get to know Marla a bit in the past few months.  We chatted about her knitting and quilting and she offered to help me learn to knit.  Whenever I met her in the hall, she was friendly and smiling - she made me feel welcome at University Advancement.  I always enjoyed meeting up with her in the hall on my way to different places.

I spent the summer with Marla when I was 12. She is such a beautiful person. To me, she was someone to look up to. An example of what a parent should be, of what a person should be. I’m so glad we have that blessed assurance. Thank you, God, for the gift of Marla.

Seeing Marla in the office was always a joy. I did not know her well, but even just passing in the hallway she would share a friendly smile and a funny comment, brightening my day. Every memory I have of Marla is accompanied by her laughter, and I will cherish that gift of happiness she gave so freely.

I worked with Marla in University Advancement for almost five years. She was a wonderful colleague. She made me feel welcome when I was new to the position and new to Michigan. She just had that welcoming way about her. I will miss seeing her smiling face. I am so glad I had the chance to know her.

Marla was kind and gentle.  A perfect companion and friend.  My wife, Carla, and I once prayed for Marla and her migraine headache instantly disappeared.  God so loves her.  She is not dead but brilliantly alive.

Dear dear Marla has been a friend of mine for 32 years. She was an amazing person, friend and a God fearing woman. We met at MSU and worked in various places together and became instant friends. I called her Maria and she called me Gaylee. She was one of my best friends and is truly going to be missed here on earth. Prayers for Dan and her entire family. Rejoice in heaven dear Maria…until we meet again.  Hugs…I love you so…

Marla was an amazing friend and colleague. She is someone that left us too early! I loved coming to work each morning to see Dan and Marla in the parking lot enjoying a coffee and breakfast.  Seeing them together showed how much they loved and cared  for one another! She always had a story to tell! Hearing about the house remodel was always an adventure especially when they were working on the roof - Dan and his ladder made for a great picture! Listening to her tell the stories made the day so much brighter. Her smile and laugh was contagious. I enjoyed working with Marla and learning from her over the years. She will always be a ray of sunshine! Class will never be the same without her....

I first met Marla while I was at the College of Nursing and she worked in the Media area.  She was the nicest/funniest person I met over there.  I then got to work with her more through University Advancement and she was always so patient and helpful.  I can't believe that she is gone, but I will always remember her and her kindness.
