I just learned of Marks passing and it makes me sad that I hadn't kept up after all these many years.  I went to high school and to Northwestern Michigan College with Mark and got to know him better as we participated in a college Christian fellowship together with good friends like David Glenn, Gordon Pennington, Mark Feldkanp, Peggy Rhinehardt, Jim Petaja, and others.  He was always laughing and able to make light of the disabilities he carried throughout his life.  He never saw himself as disabled and participated instead in life to the maximum.  I recall one time in college, having a shaving cream fight between several girls and guys in the dorm there.  I don't recall exactly what happened except that I suspect Mark had gotten one of the girls with shaving cream enough that a retaliation was planned.   A couple  of us girls promptly wheeled him, fully dressed,  into one of the dorm showers and turned on the water.  I can still remember him laughing during that episode with an exuberance that shook his whole body. 
 Years later , with some remorse, I thought of that time and felt somewhat ashamed at how I had participated in the "shower episode" - but recognized that I had totally forgotten about his disability and had treated him as I would have treated any other guys on the "opposing team".   He lived life fully and because of that, any disability he had vanished.  He , and his exuberant laugh, will be missed.  Jennifer Johnson Steiner - Ann Arbor

Kim and family....I was shocked to hear of Marks passing...as a longtime friend of Mark's I want to share the good times we had as kids in high school. We enjoyed many of the same interests building model airplanes and model rockets,playing board games and even Sunday school together...I am so glad he met you and had a family and a very long life...He will be missed but I will always have great memories of our friendship. My sympathy goes out to Marks family and many, many friends.   Mark was my first patient in my nursing career with Osteogenesis Imperfecta!  Due to his extended hospitalizations we became very good friends!  Many years ago he rolled his van near my house on his way to Lansing and I was able to help calm him until the ambulance arrived!  He leaves us with the inspiration to reach our highest goals in life!  

Dear Kim and family,
The only comfort that is adequate in such overwhelming loss is that of the Holy Spirit that God has promised us in these times. When we lost our Julie, He was there along with the love of friends and family. Mark was such a giant of a man for his spirit, faithful work ethic and wonderful sense of humor. Jeanette's office window looked out on the parking lot of Mark's office and she saw him faithfully showing up to work, with all that it took just to be there. His smile always greeted everyone he encountered. Know our prayers and love will be a part of your next days. God bless and comfort you 

We will miss you Mark.  We have been buddies and good friends, and so much more for decades.  I met you when you were teaching a Financial Class at LCC and we became fast friends with much in common.  We have (my wife Tina and me) so many wonderful and often times flat out funny memories over the years.  Your visits to our house to play cards, and how you always kept everyone laughing.  Stopping by the office to just talk under the guise of "Business".  You were great at your job, but even more important was your outstanding outlook on life! It was an inspiration for me and all who knew you--and your laugh was infectious.  You were more to us then just a "financial planner" and we pray your journey was a gentle one, and are certain you carried all that love of people, places, and adventures with you.  May your Eternal Life be as Wonderful as this one.  I am honored to have been your friend, and will think of you often and through the sadness I will smile to honor YOU. Mark was a remarkable man.  He lifted up and was an inspiration to a lot of people.  He over came a lot personally to run a successful business, have a family and be a disciple of Christ.
