Maria will forever be cherished and loved by her surviving children: Juan (Carmen), Virginia, Anita, Guadalupe, Rick, Linda (Mike) and Jose (Shannon); 14 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. Maria was preceded in death by her husband Richard of 64 years of marriage, parents Jesus & Luz B. Salazar, 2 brothers and her daughter, Gloria. Surviving are 6 siblings.
Maria was born October 22, 1939 in San Benito, Texas and moved to Michigan where she met and married the love of her life Richard. She was a housewife who raised 8 children; and was later employed at MSU, in Custodial Services, where she retired from MSU. Maria was a caring, industrious, hardworking, faithful and generous person. Although, Maria faced many trials and tribulations, she always greeted you with a smile on her face.
Maria loved to visit with friends and family. Her home was always open to everyone and she loved to cook and teach people to make tortillas. She enjoyed playing UNO, Skip Bo and Rummikub, especially teaching her grandkids who often gave her a run for her money. Her love for bargains at garage sales was a highlight and she loved to share when she spotted a bargain. Her contagious smile warmed up the room. She taught us many things like respect our elders; treat others like we want to be treated and appreciate much but expect less. Maria loved and cherished the time spent with her grandkids.
Maria’s unbreakable faith and deep love for God moved her to dedicate her life some 46 years ago, on August 8, 1976. She inspired all who knew her to make Jehovah a real and true friend. Maria has touched many lives over the years and she leaves behind her spiritual heritage. She has made a name with Jehovah and ran the race to the finish. Maria often thanked Jehovah specifically in prayer for the strength to endure to the end.
We want to give special thanks to the Nurses and Staff of Sparrow Hospice Service for caring for our mom and who gave support to her children. A memorial service will be held July 22, 2023 at 3:00 p.m. at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 2330 N. East Street, Lansing, MI 48906. A graveside service will be held at East Lawn Memory Gardens, 2400 Bennett Road, Okemos, MI at a later date.
