Louis D. Bacon, 90, of Lansing, passed away on December 25th, 2023. He was born on April 5th, 1933 to George H and Florence Bacon in Kalamazoo, MI. He was predeceased by his parents, his brother Dwight and his sister Judy.
He is survived by his wife Gealene, his brother Richard, his six children from his previous marriage: Thomas (Roni) Bacon, James (Loell) Bacon, Jeffrey (Cheryl) Bacon, Steven (Karie) Bacon, Betsy (Steve) Potter, Amy (Doug) Carr, stepdaughters Tonja (Max) Hall and Celeste (Roy) Tiller, 15 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren (with another on the way).
Louie lived his whole life in the Lansing area. He graduated from Sexton HS in 1951. In 1952, he joined the Marines. One of his proudest achievements in the military was circumnavigating the globe on the USS Saipan in 1953/54. Upon his honorable discharge as a Sgt. in 1955, he returned to Lansing, working in the Civil Service Dept of the State of Michigan. He transferred to the Aeronautics Dept at Capital City Airport in 1960, working his way up to Airport Assistant Manager in 1971. He loved the Airport, and in 1988 he was voted Michigan Airport Manager of the Year. He was also instrumental in bringing the Michigan Air Operations of UPS to the Lansing Airport prior to his retirement in 1990.
Louie loved traveling, whether it was going on road trips all over the US and Canada or traveling abroad with Gealene. He also loved his Volkswagens and pickup trucks, bowling, MSU/Detroit sports, his friends at the Red Cedar Lodge and building anything out of wood. He especially loved spending time with his grandchildren.
There will be no public viewing or funeral service. In lieu of flowers, Louie requested that contributions be made to his and Gealene's favorite charity, the Greater Lansing Food Bank.
