Lois Kay Bowerman, 82, passed away on November 13, 2024. She was born on October 10, 1942 in Lansing, MI to Floyd and Leona Root. She was one of eight children. Lois was very attached to her parents and siblings and remained close to them throughout her lifetime. Each loss of a beloved parent or sibling affected her deeply.
Lois had four biological children and was primarily a stay at home parent when her children were young. She was known for her immaculate home and wonderful cooking . Family members always looked forward to her scalloped potatoes, and wonderful pies. Later in life Lois adopted two great granddaughters after raising her other children which she found to be very rewarding. She was a dedicated caregiver to her parents and was always available to watch her grandchildren.
Lois worked at various jobs over the years including Michigan Bell and General Aluminum where she loved to bring cooked meals and baked goods to her coworkers. While married to her former husband, Lois helped run a restaurant, a full-service gas station, and a pizza parlor & arcade where she was affectionally known as Mrs. B.
Lois had her own motorcycle at one time and on impulse once bought a luxurious Cadillac Coupe Deville that was her pride and joy. She loved reading, jigsaw puzzles, keeping in touch with family and friends on Facebook and family gatherings. She was a devoted supporter of military veterans and never missed the annual parade.
Lois is survived by her children Kristy Ullman, Jeff (Shelly) Bowerman, Kelly (Lee) Koteles, Justin (Michelle) Bowerman, Sabrina and Bethany Bowerman as well as siblings Donna Forbush, Skip Root, and Ken Root. She is also survived by grandchildren Nikki and Christopher Ullman, Jayme (Dan) Knapp, Jenny (Will) Ginther, Aaron Vorce, Alex Koteles, Brandon Bowerman, Kayla (Bryon Semmler) and great grandchildren Aria, Fisher, Ava, Bennett, Carson, Charleigh, Brantley, Granger, Jaxon, Emma and Carter, as well as many nieces and nephews. Lois was preceded in death by both of her parents, sister and brother-in-law Joyce and David Wicks, sister Barbara Goucher, sister and brother in law Beverly and Stanley Arnston, brother David Root, granddaughter Kerry Scardo, grandson Adam Vorce, son in law James Ullman and nephews Roger Wicks, Tim Root, and Mike Weisenberg.
Services will be held at Gorsline Runciman Funeral Home at 900 Michigan Ave in Lansing, MI. Visitation will begin at 10:00am with services starting at 11:00am. Interment will follow at East Lawn Memory Gardens, 2400 Bennett Rd, Okemos.
