Kenneth R. Ziegler

Lansing, MI

Age 69, won his battle with Multiple Sclerosis and entered Heaven to be with God, on Sunday, February 27, 2011. He was at home, surrounded by his loving family and friends. Ken was born on April 16, 1941 in Saginaw, Michigan. He received his bachelors degree in business and his masters in industrial psychology from Western Michigan University. He raised his family primarily in Kalamazoo where he worked as an accountant/controller at VC Squier in Battle Creek. He then moved to Lansing where he worked as a program analyst at the Commission for the Blind for the State of Michigan. Ken will be deeply missed by his wife, Mary Ellen of 27 years; sons, Lee and Dave; “adopted” daughters, Heidi (Heath) Hunt and Maria Hernandez (who also cared for Ken); grandchildren, Ryan, Jessica, Landon, Dylan, Lexie, Jack, Katriel, Monroe; and his sister Peggy (Matt) Wirgau. He will also be missed by many nieces, nephews, friends and his loving care-givers who have become family: John Wilson and John Tellier. He was preceded in death by his parents, Roland and Helen (Luta) Ziegler; and his sister, Marilyn Solomon (Ziegler). Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 5, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. (with visitation 1 hour prior to service), at Grace United Methodist Church, 1900 Boston Blvd., Lansing, MI. The Rev. Tom Arthur will be officiating. Interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery in Lansing. The family will receive friends at Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes, 900 E. Michigan Avenue, Lansing, MI on Friday, March 4, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Many witnessed Ken’s great sense of humor, his gentle and loving spirit, and his enduring courage as he “fought the good fight” to enjoy life in spite of many health challenges. He was determined to “press on” for the prize of eternal life in Heaven with Christ Jesus, his Lord and Savior. (Philippians 3:14).
