Kenneth J. Klein passed away peacefully in his sleep on May 25, 2018 after a long illness at Brookdale Meridian Assisted Living in Haslett, Michigan. He was born in Lansing, Michigan on June 7, 1926 to the late Phillip Klein and Anne Klein. He married Marcella T. Koenigsknecht in 1951. After his graduation from Sexton High School in 1944, he was inducted into the U.S. Army where he served in the Pacific Theatre until he was honorably discharged in 1946, rising to rank of Platoon Sergeant. Upon his discharge, he returned to Lansing where he worked at various companies including Oldsmobile and Fisher Body while attending Lansing Business College where he graduated with an Associate Degree in Accounting. After receiving his degree, he continued working at several companies until he began his professional career at Carrier-Stephens Chemical Company in 1951 where he worked until his retirement in 1991 as the company's office manager and a member of its Board of Directors.
Kenneth was a great husband and father to his four sons. He was well liked by everyone who knew him and admired for his work ethic, generosity, and sense of humor. He made great sacrifices in supporting his family and he would go out of his way to help those in need. He was parishioner of the Church of the Resurrection in Lansing and served on the Board of Directors of its credit union.
He was an avid golfer (and bowler in his early years); a game which gave him both enjoyment and frustration at times. He scored two holes in ones in his retirement years. He also was a devoted fan of the Michigan State Spartans (he was a long-time MSU football season ticket holder) and the Detroit Lions and Tigers. Additionally, he enjoyed taking road trips and watching old westerns.
Kenneth is preceded in death by his son William B. Klein and his brother Philip R. Klein, Jr. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Marcella (Sally), and his sons Robert W. Klein (wife Jeannine), Steven C. Klein (wife Christine), Paul D. Klein and his grandson Nathan R. Klein (wife Brandi).
A mass celebrating Kenneth's life will be held at the Church of the Resurrection, 1527 E Michigan Ave, Lansing, MI 48912 at 11:00 a.m. (visitation at 10:00 a.m.). Burial to follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, 2520 West Willow Street Lansing, MI 48917.
