He is survived by his wife Teresa. Ken and Teresa had just celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary and Ken’s 90th Birthday with their family this past January. Ken graduated from M.S.U. with a dual major in mathematics and physics. He was also a veteran and served in the U.S. Army. He worked for the State for over thirty years and his last position was the Personnel Director of the State of Michigan.
Family was extremely important to him and there was always some type of family gathering happening at Higgins Lake or elsewhere. He was the past President of the Higgins Lake Property Owner’s Association among many other committees and was known as “Mr. Higgins Lake” by some. He was instrumental in starting the Swimmer’s Itch Program; which is focused on implementing environmentally-sound methods to significantly reduce swimmer’s itch at Higgins Lake.
Survivors include his four children, Karrie (Kent) Waskerwitz of Traverse City, Kent (Sarah) Dennings of Lansing, Kathy Culhane of Florida and Tammie Dennings of Grand Ledge; twelve grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren, one daughter-in-law, Chris Dennings, two sister-in-laws, Mary Ann Woodcock and Sophie Jeffries; and many more relatives.
He was preceded in death by two sons, Kenneth Dennings and Jim Dennings.
A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, April 20th at 11:00 AM at Gorsline Runciman Funeral Home, 900 E. Michigan Avenue, Lansing, MI, with a luncheon immediately following at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Ken's name to the Higgins Lake Swimmers Itch Organization. http://hlsio.org/
