

She was born to Niels P. and Klaudiane S. Rasmussen in Lansing, Michigan. As a young child she was taken to their home country of Denmark, where she lived until she was 12 yrs old and her parents decided to immigrate to the USA. She attended Millet School, in Millet, Michigan, and later graduated from J.W. Sexton High School in Lansing, class of 1952.
She continued her education at Michigan State University, earning both a BA and a Mrs. when she married her beloved young army veteran, Theodore (Ted) P. Abramczyk, at her beloved Grace Lutheran Church in Lansing.
She worked for J.W. Knapp’s, and others sewing upholstery and drapes, later she drove a school bus for Waverly School District until she retired.
She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, where she served in many roles, singing in the choir, and helping with the rummage sales every year were a couple of her favorites.
She was a Cub Scout Den Mother.
She was also a member of the Scandinavian Society of Greater Lansing for a time, celebrating and sharing the culture of her parents’ homeland.
She was an avid gardener who canned and preserved food for the family, in addition to keeping flower gardens that drew strangers to her door to tell her how much they enjoyed driving by. She would create lovely cut bouquets to share with everyone.
She enjoyed carpentry and woodworking, and did many of her own home improvements and repairs. Learning many new skills as the need arose. She was an avid reader, and always kept up to date on the news of the world.
Karen is survived by her daughter, Linda Edgar (Dave), daughter-in-law, Virginia Abramczyk (Niels), step granddaughter Anna Gomez (Daniel), and their children Selena, DJ, and Jay. Many nieces and nephews, and countless friends, especially Nora Polly, who has been a dear and helpful friend through the years.
Karen was preceded in death by, her husband Theodore in 1983, her son, Walter in 2018, her son Niels in 2011, and a brother, Sven, who died as an infant before she was born.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, April 22, 2023 at 2:00 PM, at Grace Lutheran Church, 528 North Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, with visitation starting one hour prior to service at 1:00PM.
For those wishing to make a memorial donation, Doctors Without Borders, Amnesty International, Heifer International, and the Capital Area Humane Society were some of her preferred charities.
