Judy McQueen 86 passed away April 11, 2025. She was born July 30, 1938, in Holland, MI. Judy designed and presented educational programs at MSU for 21 years and was the first coordinator of the Women's Resource Center at Lansing Community College for 11 years. Earlier, she was a staff reporter and free-lance writer for the Lansing State Journal, the owner-escort of Capital Area Tours, leading 63 cruises, and the Public Relations Director for both Capital Area United Way, and Weight Watchers of Western Michigan. Judy earned her bachelor’s degree from Spring Arbor College, and her MA degree in Adult and Continuing Education from MSU.
Past awards include the Distinguished Alumni Award from Lansing Community College, and the YWCA Diana Award for Outstanding Community Contributions. Judy was a long-time member of Plymouth Congregational Church and more recently, Mayflower Church, a lifetime member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority; and was active in many community organizations.
Surviving are her son Kevin McQueen (Suzanne) of Denver, CO; daughter Lisa (Robert) Rowland of Traverse City, MI; brother Michael (Connie) VanDerTuuk of DeWitt, MI; sister Jill (Rod) Perkins of Fort Myers, FL; grandchildren Eric (Erica) McQueen of Littleton, CO, Ann McQueen Owens (Stefan) of Milford, MI; Alex Rowland of Marquette, MI; Lauren Rowland (Ross Mulder) of Marquette, Trish (Mitch) Rebello of Denver, CO, Tony Santoro of Thorton, CO; and great-grandchildren Reagan and Harper McQueen, Lucy and Beckam Owens and Zoey Rebello. Judy considered her numerous friends among her greatest treasures and creating group outings and travels were among her special skills and gifts to so many.
Judy was preceded in death by her parents, Al and Ike VanDerTuuk of Ft. Meyers, FL.; her brother Terry (Diane) VanDerTuuk of Leawood, KS, her former husband Richard McQueen; and her husband of 30 years, Vernon E. Fesco.
In accordance with Judy’s wishes, she was cremated. A Celebration of Judy’s Life service is scheduled for June 14, 2025 at 11:00am at Mayflower Congregational.
