He is survived by 4 daughters, Jennifer (Ron) Putmon of DeWitt, MI, Leslie (Jeremy) Werkheiser of St. Ignace, MI, Megann (Sandra Sawaya) Lohman of Northglenn, CO, and Kimberly Lohman of Austin, TX; 6 grandchildren, Annie, Thomas, Wesley, and Mason Putmon, and Gabriel and Emily Werkheiser; brother, Kim Patrick (KP) Lohman of Centerville, TX, and 2 sisters, MaryAnn Hartmann of Colorado Springs, CO, and Jacklyn Hartley of Montgomery, TX; and 4 grand-fur-babies, Yogi Beara, Riley, Mugsy-Bones, and Bearon “Bear” Barkley.
As a young man, James (better know during this time as Jim, Jimmy or Jimmy-the-Great) proudly served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. Later, Jim graduated from Northeast Louisiana University in 1976 where he received his Bachelor’s degree… and met the love of his life, Miss Cynthia Ann Tietje. After a whirlwind romance packed full of some amazing courting stories, Jim worked for many years in sales for Pitney Bowes. Having been blessed with the gift-of-gab, Jim proudly accepted multiple “Salesman of the Year” awards during his successful career and made some pretty outstanding friendships along the way. Between the years of 1980 and 1998, Jim and Ann together raised 4 totally amazing and talented daughters. Tragically, in 1998, Ann was called Home and Jim took on the responsibility of Mr. Mom.
In the early 2000s, James attended Michigan State University, received his teaching certificate, and then promptly gained a new respect for the public school system. As a teacher in the Lansing School District at Otto Middle School, Gardner Middle School and Eastern High School, Mr. Lohman met many awesome kids. Many of which grew up and became great friends. In his retirement years, Jim worked in sales once again for Aldinger’s, Impact Solutions, and Foresight Group, all in the Lansing area. But let’s be real, dad spent the most of his time with his kids and grandkids!
Help us celebrate the life of our dad by attending his Memorial Service on Tuesday, July 23, 2019 at Okemos Community Church located at 4734 Okemos Rd., Okemos, MI. Officiating will be Pastor Rick Blunt. Visitation will be at the church from 10:00 – 11:00 AM. The service will be held at 11:00 AM in the main sanctuary. A light luncheon at the church will follow the service. During this time family and friends will have an opportunity to share their stories of the man by many names... James, Jimmy, Jim, Jimbo, Jimmy-the-Great, Mr. Lohman, Mr. Mom, Grandpa Jim, Papa Jim, Daddy-O, and Dad. Whatever you called him, just don’t call him late for dinner!
(There will not be a gravesite service. Dad’s final resting place will be next to our mom in China Cemetery in Elton, Louisiana to be carried out at a later date.)
