JAMES F. COX, SR.
James Cox was born July 26, 1937 in Ripley, TN. He is the son of the late Jim Alice and John Wesley Cox, Sr. James was a native of Lansing, MI. He was born the 5th of 8 children – 5 girls and 3 boys. He was the youngest son. James was called home from labor to reward on January 28, 2020 at the age of 82.
James served in the United States Army for 8 years of active duty. He dutifully and distinguishably fought in the Korean War. James retired from General Motors (Fisher Body) after 38.3 years of dedicated service. He was a member of Paradise Missionary Baptist Church where he faithfully served his church, sang in the church choir, and was the church custodian.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Jim Alice and John Wesley Cox, Sr.; 2 brothers, Sidney Lewis Cox, and John Wesley Cox, Jr.; 3 sisters, Udora Cox, Sadie Mae Bullock, and Cora Mae Crutcher; and daughter, Michelle Cox. He is survived by Jeanette Cox, 2 sisters, Mary Sue Shaw and Joyce Diane Pettigrew; 5 daughters, Tracy Cox (Wayne DeShazer), Joyce (Joe) Martin, Kim Cox, Brandy Ruiz (Eric Taylor), and Kimberly Ruiz (Kofi Johnson); 1 son, James Cox, Jr.; 22 grandchildren; and 30 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, their spouses, other family, and many friends.
James will always be remembered as a loving and devoted father, son, and friend to many. He sowed good seeds of wisdom, responsibility, integrity, morality, and education, as well as steadfast and unyielding faith in God to his family. He valued the many friendships he cultivated and forged along the way. In many unassuming and unmentioned ways, he touched, inspired, motivated, and helped the lives of countless people.
Family, friends, and others whose lives he touched are invited to celebrate the lift of James Cox. The family will receive friends 6-8 PM Wednesday, February 5, 2020 at Tiffany Funeral Home, 3232 W. Saginaw, Lansing. Funeral service is 11 AM Thursday, February 6, 2020 at Paradise Missionary Baptist Church, 3403 Franette Rd., Lansing, MI with visitation 10-11 AM prior to the service at the church.
