Born January 13, 1961 in Lansing, the son of John and Melba (Trim) Gross, died October 10, 2012 at the age of 51. Jack graduated from Eastern High School in 1979. He played the Tuba in the Eastern High School Marching band. Jack battled with Hodgkins disease his senior year of high school, but was able to graduate on time earning academic and musical awards. After graduating high school, Jack attended Michigan State University where he was a member of the Delta Upsilon Fraternity. Jack graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Communication. Jack started working at Dart Container where he met the love of his life, Janet Plave-Gross and they married on June 18, 1994. Jack was employed by Dart Container for over 25 years and continued to work thru his illness. He is survived by his beloved wife, Janet; father, John (Bud) Gross; step-mother, Donna Shell-Gross; sister, Jill (Andy) Gilbert; nieces, Holly and Heidi; great niece, Delila; sisters-in-law, Debbie (Mark) Johnson, Sandi (Joe) Gelina Barb (Mike) Verhamme, Connie (Brian) Gilbert, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother, Melba. Jack’s hobbies included boating and model trains. He enjoyed traveling with Janet, photography, driving his John Deere Tractor, hosting family/friend bon fires and gatherings, designing web sites, and watching Janet perform with her horses and carriages. Jack’s honesty, humor, computer knowledge, positive attitude and genuine love of life will be missed by all who knew him. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, October 20, 2012 at Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes, 900 E. Michigan Ave., Lansing. The family will receive friends two hours prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, those desiring, may make contributions in Jack’s memory to Beekman Therapeutic Riding Center, 2901 Wabash, Lansing, MI 48910.
