It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Floyd Eugene Reid, one of the funniest men we have ever known. Floyd peacefully left this world on October 8, 2024, surrounded by the love and warmth of his family. Born in Lansing, Michigan on September 22, 1933 to John and Ruby Reid, Floyd brought laughter and joy to everyone he encountered.
Floyd always had a joke or witty remark ready to brighten someone’s day. His magnetic personality drew people to him, possessing a remarkable ability to forge friendships wherever he went. Floyd was a devoted sports fan, as he cheered on his beloved Detroit Lions, Michigan Wolverines (Go Blue!), Michigan State Spartans (Go Green! Go White!), and Detroit Tigers.
A hardworking family man, Floyd dedicated over 30 years as a millwright at the Federal Drop Forge in Lansing. He proudly served in the Navy during the Korean conflict, embodying the spirit of duty and commitment to his country.
On January 23, 1960, he married his beloved wife, Mary. They raised four children together and enjoyed travelling the country after retirement. Not a day passed without Floyd making Mary laugh, a testament to the joy he infused into her life. His zest for life was evident in everything he did, from his passion for painting, trips to a casino, but most of all the love and laughter he shared with his family and friends.
Floyd will be deeply missed by his wife of 64 years, Mary Reid; his children, Tracy (John) Zambon, Matthew (Bethany Harris) Reid, and April Locke (Wendel Conarty); his grandchildren, Jon (Kayla) Reid, Alejandro (Savanna Seavolt) Reid, Matthew (Jessica Breidenbaugh) Reid, John Hedlund, Kasondra Kretzinger, and Ryan (Rosemary) Davern; and his great-grandchildren, Alejandro Reid, Amelia Reid, Avia Nelson, and Rian Davern. He is also survived by his brothers-in-law, Roger (Pauline) Brunette and Gregory (Leona) Brunette, along with numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Floyd was preceded in death by his parents, his son, John Russell Reid, and his siblings, Lily Mae (Arsie) Reid, Gracie DeLang, and Fred Reid.
The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the University of Michigan Sparrow Hospice House for the exceptional care they provided during Floyd’s final days.
In accordance with Floyd’s wishes, no services will be held.
