Edgar Christian West, age 91, of Lansing, passed away on July 5,2016 at McLaren Greater Lansing. Edgar was born on February 15, 1925 in Pellston, Michigan, the son of John C. and Idella M. (Schiller) West. Edgar proudly served our country during World War II. He was in Naples, Rome; Southern France, Rhineland and Central Europe. Edgar retired after 34 ½ years from Sears and then worked another 10 years at Camp Highfields teaching wayward youths trade skills. He was an avid hunter, enjoyed dancing, was a great story teller, loved crossword puzzles, word games, was very artistic, and a jack of all trades, but master of none! In his later years he joined Mount Hope United Methodist Church, and enjoyed attending services there. Edgar loved to travel with his wife; Mary, they enjoyed going on cruises and loved to visit new places. Family & friends were the most important thing in the world to him and he loved to spend time with them.
Edgar is survived by his wife; Mary, his daughters; Valerie (Bradner) Smith, Linda Cleeves-Clark (Dan Clark); his grandchildren, Kevin Cleeves, Lisa Cleeves, Laura Frakes, Tracy Lorenz, Benjamin Smith, along with Ten grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents and all 13 of his siblings.
Funeral services will be 11:00am on Tuesday, July 12, 2016 at Gorsline Runciman Funeral Home, Lansing Chapel 900 E. Michigan Avenue. Visitation will be Monday from 4-6pm at the funeral home.
