Dorothy June Simmons

She is preceded in death by her husband of fifty years; James Simmons and their infant daughter, Cheryl Ann. Her parents, Roy and Marguerite (Monteith) Kleis, brothers; Russell J. Kleis, Richard Kleis, Robert Kleis, Nephews; Donald Kleis, David Klies, and grandnephew; Thomas Kleis.

She is survived by many nieces and nephews who were all very dear to her.

Dorothy taught school for forty-three years primarly in the Lansing School District. She was a charter member of Alpha Delta Kappa, International Honorary Teachers Society, a member of Asbury United Methodist Church in Lansing for over 50 years until moving to Jackson, there she became a member of Calvary United Methodist Church. She sang in the choir well into her 90’s.

She was an active volunteer for over 20 years with the American Red Cross and the Sparrow Hospital Auxiliary Gift Shop. She and Jim loved to travel and visited all 50 states and all Canadian Provinces.

Dorothy and Jim moved to Vista Grande Villa in 1993.

A Celebration of Life will be held 10:30 am Tuesday, November 28, 2017, at Vista Grande Villa, 2251 Springport Rd., Jackson, MI 49202. Family will receive friend’s half hour prior to service.
