Donald Virgil Pung, 84, went peacefully to be with his Lord and Savior on July 22, 2022 at Hospice House of Mid-Michigan after courageously battling multiple health issues. Don was born in Fowler, MI on December 30, 1937 to Albert and Dorothy (Schomisch) Pung. Don grew up in Fowler on the family farm and learned the art of construction and hard work at an early age by working for his brothers’ barn building company. He married the love of his life, Bea Simon on September 13, 1958 and they shared nearly 64 years of marriage together.
Don was a prominent contractor for over 50 years as the owner of Don Pung Drywall (the memory of which is carried on today by Bret Bennett). Don proudly served in the United States Army and was a member of St. Gerard Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. Don enjoyed golfing, playing cards, tinkering with his stocks, cheering on the Spartans & Tigers, attending daily mass and breakfast with his church friends and especially going on the Pung family vacation, which was the highlight of the year.
Don is survived by his loving wife, Bea, his three daughters Carol (Dennis) Wissner, Nancy (Jon) Novakoski, Kelly (Bob) Patten, his ten grandchildren Nicholas (Erica) Novakoski, Anna (Sean) Regan, Thomas (Hope) Novakoski, Grace Novakoski, Zack Wissner, Josh Wissner, Anthony Patten, Elliott Patten, Amelia Patten and Jameson Patten, and his three great grand grandchildren Claire, Benedict and James. He was predeceased by his parents, his six brothers Leonard, Virgil, Jerome, Gerald, Leon and his twin brother Ronald Pung and his three sisters Rita Harr, Bernadette Klatt, and Virginia Eisler.
Visitation will be Thursday, August 4, 2022 from 2:00-4:00 and 6:00-8:00 with the Rosary being prayed at 7:00 pm at Tiffany Funeral Home, 3232 W. Saginaw St, Lansing. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, August 5, 2022 at 10:30 am with visitation at 9:30 until the time of Mass at St. Gerard Catholic Church, 4437 W. Willow Hwy, Lansing with Father Mark Martin presiding. The Rite of Committal with Military Honors will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Lansing.
Don was a devoted family man and possessed a work ethic and faith life that affected all those who knew him. We will miss his wisdom, humor, and generous spirit. His great faith in God has touched us all.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the charity of your choice in honor of St. Anne, the family’s patron saint.
