Dennis Leon Sunderlin age 70, of Lansing, MI was received into the arms of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on June 24, 2021. Dennis was born January 8, 1951, in Lansing, MI to Clayton Duane and Phyllis Ruth (Pryor) Sunderlin. As a youth, he was active in Boy Scouts and achieved the rank of Eagle Scout. He was a graduate of Waverly High School and pursued a nursing education through Lansing Community College, with a Bachelor of Science from Western Michigan University. He faithfully served as a nurse for more than 40 years. His work history included service at Sparrow Hospital, Provincial House - Whitehills, Burcham Hills, Lansing General Hospital, and retired from 20 years in Endoscopy at McLaren of Greater Lansing.
Dennis married his high school sweetheart, Patricia (Pursel) Sunderlin, who survives him. They enjoyed 50 years of marriage. Amongst his legacy is his son Dr. Matthew Sunderlin of Nunica, MI; two daughters, Leslie (Paul) Morley of Washington, DC, and Faith Sunderlin of Lansing. He has three grandchildren: Victoria, Thomas, and Abigail Sunderlin. Also surviving him are his siblings: sister, Janet (Nelson) Annan of London, Ontario; and three local brothers, David, Dorwin, and Dean Sunderlin, with several nieces and nephews.
Dennis was unwavering in his love and devotion to his family and was greatly loved by family, friends, and colleagues. He excelled at problem solving, and many of his “sayings” to live by are still quoted. Dennis quietly lived out his faith each day through service to others as a member of New Covenant Christian Church for over 40 years. Many recognized him as a man of wisdom, integrity, and excellence of character, as well as a dear friend.
Memorial Services will be held at 11:30am on July 17, 2021 at New Covenant Christian Church, 4415 W. Saint Joseph Hwy, Lansing, MI 48917. Visitation will start at 11am.
