David Lockhart, 81, was called to be with the Lord on March 31, 2022. David was born in Fisher, Louisiana, to Weldon and Dessie Mae Lockhart, and moved to South Bend, Indiana as a young child. After graduating from the University of Indiana, he moved to Lansing to begin his 40-year-long career as an educator. He taught in the Lansing Public Schools, Kellogg Community College in Battle Creek, and his last 25 years with the Waverly School District. His major was romance languages, was fluent in Spanish and French, and never stopped his desire to learn languages. He was involved in many club activities with the schools and enjoyed mentoring students. He was always considered a strict teacher and believed that students “stay on task.” Many former students that he would run into over the years expressed that he was one of the best teachers they ever had and appreciated him despite all the hard work. That warmed his heart.
David served the Kingdom Ministries Church as a Deacon for many years. His devout faith and service to the Lord gave him the needed strength and positivity to overcome any obstacles in his life.
David was preceded in death by his parents and four siblings. He is survived by his loving wife, Stephanie, his four children, Kimyon (Ann) Lockhart, Djoachim Lockhart, Reanique (Rod) Turner and Kye Lockhart, 8 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren, as well as four siblings, Mae Brown, James Lockhart, Timothy Lockhart, and Samuel Lockhart and many nieces and nephews.
He was affectionately known as “Popi” to all of his grandkids, as well as to many of their friends. He always did the best he could to guide and help his family and would continue to do so as long as he was alive. He was loved and will truly be missed.
I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. 2 Timothy 4:7.
