David Lee Curry, Sr. was born in Monroeville, Alabama on August 29, 1954 to the late Robert Lee and Mary Louise Curry. In 1965, the family relocated to Benton Harbor, MI. In 1972, David graduated from Benton Harbor High School and later completed his associate degree in Food and Hospitality Management at Lake Michigan College. Throughout the years, David held regional manager positions in the food Industry and receive multiple service awards.
David met the love of his life and high school sweetheart Coy Cole. They later married and recently celebrated 37 years of marriage. Through this union they have 4 children. Affectionately known as “Bubba” by his family, he had an amazing sense of humor, that kept everyone around him laughing. He had a giant heart, loved his family, and would give to those in need. David was an ordain Deacon at Grace Bible Baptist Fellowship Church under the pastoral leadership of the late Claggett Ward. He later joined Restoration Family Life Church and served under the leadership of Pastor Joseph Pruitt until his transition.
David was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Lee and Mary Louise Curry; his brother, Robert Lloyd Curry; mother in-law, Betty Shurn; brothers-in-law Frank Cross and Nathaniel Hister; sister-in-law, Renee Cross and niece, Renee Curry.
David leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife Lorelei Coy Curry, three daughters; Toya (Joseph) Pruitt of Mason, MI; Angela Johnson of Kalamazoo, MI; Monet (Joseph) Edwards of Holt, MI and one son, David (Etoyia) Curry, Jr of Jacksonville, FL. Ten grandchildren, Camani Johnson, Gabrielle Pruitt, Jayshon Murphy, Cayden Johnson, Camiah Johnson, Jace Edwards, Raquel Pruitt, Cayleb Johnson, Caysun Johnson and David Curry, III ; one sister, Doris Hister of Benton Harbor MI; aunts, Connie Salter and Pearlie Salter Johnston; uncles, Thomas (Annie) White. John (Maxine) White, Alphonso Tucker; sister-in-laws, Harriette Curry and Betty Jean Ventress; brother-in-laws, Michael Cross, Malvin Cross, Owen Cole, Everett (Audra) Cole and Preston (Laura) Cole; a host of nieces, nephews and other family members including long-time friends Pete Heyn, Alvin Johnson, Larry Patton, Randy Ray, Kenny Spencer, and Roy Williams.
Services for David will take place Friday, October 14, 2022 at Kingdom Ministries, 3000 W. Miller Rd., Lansing, MI 48911
