Carla Maureen Sander, 86, passed away peacefully on May 4, 2019. Born March 2, 1933 to the late John F. and Elizabeth I. (Egan) Sander. Dr. Sander was an accomplished physician and musician, who enjoyed a wide range of interests, which she enjoyed with her many dear friends. Dr. Sander’s undergraduate degree is from Michigan State University, she attended medical school at the University of Michigan, completed a residency in pathology at Massachusetts General Hospital, and was a Fulbright scholar in England. Dr. Sander was a pathologist at Michigan State University. Her research focused on placental pathology, which led to an important discovery and numerous publications.
Dr. Sander was an accomplished violinist. She studied with Romeo Tata at Michigan State University, and played several violin recitals by major classical composers, including Brahms, Chausson, and Mozart. Dr. Sander had many other interests throughout her life, including automobiles and historic barns.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Elizabeth Sander. She will be lovingly remembered by her brother, John E. Sander; her special friend of 29 years, Douglas Strait; niece, Meg Sander; and nephew, John T. Sander.
A Celebration of Life for Carla Maureen Sander will be held on Saturday, June 15, 2019 at 3:00pm at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 218 W. Ottawa Street, Lansing, MI 48933.
