Carl B. Meyer, of East Lansing, MI went to be with his Lord on February 3,2017 at the age of 92. He was born in Bridgeport, West Virginia to Carl H. and Lillie (Bayly) Meyer on August 25, 1924, the younger of two children.
On March 11, 1926, at nineteen months old, Carl was injured in an accident at his father's jewelry store that resulted in severe burns on his face and the loss of sight in his right eye. For treatment of his injuries, the family moved from West Virginia to Chicago. At the age of 11, they moved to Rockford, Illinois where he attended the First Baptist Church. During Junior High and High School, he worked as a newsboy selling magazine subscriptions and delivering newspapers.
In 1942, the family moved again and settled in Lansing, MI and the family started attending the South Baptist Church, now known as South Church. Carl finished his schooling at Eastern High School graduating with the class of 1943.
During WWII Carl was drafted but during his physical exam, he was not accepted due to his eye injury. His contribution to the war effort came in the form of him working for REO Motors and Hill Diesel Engine Company, manufacturing engine for the Navy ships. After the war, and a few years of training, around 1950, he attended Grand Rapids School of Bible and Music and Acme Business College, later taking a job with the Michigan Department of Transportation working from 1957-1984. The whole time, he was active at South Church, having served in the Christian Ministry, sang in choir; where he met his future wife, Noelle Haan, and they were married on June 17,1967.
Carl was an avid MSU fan, he enjoyed traveling especially to visit his in-laws, and he was a fan of early automobiles and collecting old coins. He and his wife enjoyed volunteering for CEF in their Noah's Arc at county fairs and festivals all over Lower Michigan.
He is survived by his wife, Noelle; his children, JoEllen (David) McGee of Kansas City, MO, Carla (David) Gerst of Clarkston, MI, Julie Meyer of East Lansing, MI, and Jackie (Fred) Foster of Lansing, MI; and 6 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his sister, Dorothy Heinemann, and his parents, Carl and Lillie Meyer.
Memorial services will be held Saturday, February 18th at 2:00 pm at South Church, 5250 Cornerstone Drive, Lansing, MI. The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service.
