Betty Cole passed away peacefully at 94 years old with loving family present in her home in Lansing, Michigan on December 26, 2016. Betty retired from the US Postal Service in Lansing as a clerk. She was a homemaker, mother, grandmother and great grandmother.
Betty loved to go out to lunch, shopping, and go to the movies. She was an avid reader, gardener and loved to cook and bake. She was a season ticket holder enjoying Broadway plays at the Wharton Center at Michigan State University as well as the MSU Department of Theatre Student Productions. Betty also loved traveling throughout the US with her sister as well as other family members.
She was born in Defiance, Ohio and was preceded in death by her husband John A Cole, her mother Ruth, her sister Dorothy, her brother Robert and great grandson Callan.
Betty is survived by her five children; Linda Barrows (Mason, MI), Deborah Cole (Larry Anovitz; Oak Ridge, TN), John D. Cole (DuRee; San Diego, CA), Spencer K. Cole (Robin; Charlotte, MI), Thomas Scott Cole (Lansing, MI) and her loving cat Yoda who stayed protectively close by her side for the last few months of her life. She is also survived by three step children Sandra Hull (Hattiesburg, MS) Barbara Walker (Westerville, OH) and Susan Shircliff (Joseph; Mason, OH). Betty had 19 grandchildren, and 14 great grandchildren.
A private memorial will be held for the family and close friends in May. Thanks to the McLaren Hospice group who were available to the family 24/7.
