Frederick Becker

Except for his time in the United States Army from December 1967 – September 1970, Fred spent his

entire life on South Whidbey. He was raised by Fred and MinaBelle (Neil) Becker on the family

homestead in Freeland. The family homestead was sold to Nichols Brothers Boat Works in 1964. Fred

worked for Nichols Brothers for more than 30 years, retiring in June 2015.

Fred and the love of his life, Holly Middleton, spent more than 30 years together, eventually marrying in

1994. He and Holly loved spending time on Hood Canal, fishing, and taking trips.

Born in Coupeville on September 13, 1948, he graduated from Langley High School in 1966, attended

Everett Community College for 1 year, and passed away at WhidbeyHealth Medical Center, Coupeville.

His laughter and quick wit will be missed by many friends and family. He loved football, was a collector

of Seahawks memorabilia, he enjoyed golfing, fishing, pheasant and elk hunting, rock hounding, and

listening to sports radio.

Fred could always be counted on if you needed something and was a good friend to many. If Fred ever

cared for you, he has your picture. He was the keeper of the family history, including many historical

records of his dad’s logging operations.

Preceding him in death were his beloved wife Holly, his parents, Fred and MinaBelle Becker, and brother

Robert. Fred is survived by Holly’s daughters, Mia McConnell and Tia Larranaga, and Fred’s son, James

R. Becker. Fred was blessed with a large extended family.

A celebration for Fred will be held on August 26, 2017 (Saturday) at 1 p.m. The event will be held at the

Trinity Lutheran Church, Freeland.
