Peter was born in Toronto, Ontario. His family soon moved to Guelph, Ontario where he grew up with his older brother. After completing his residency in Ophthalmology at UBC, Dr. Zakrzewski decided to stay in British Columbia and set up his practice in Langley, and was a staff physician at Langley Memorial Hospital.
While Peter was a talented surgeon and dedicated physician, he was most proud of his role as a husband and father. He was adored by his wife, Claudia Lemay. He was a spectacular dad who adored, understood, and contemplated the needs of his children and spoke of them frequently. He also enjoyed the company of the family’s 4 horses (whom he begrudgingly helped Claudia to care for), 4 cats, 2 dogs, 2 crayfish, and the many chickens and birds that were once allowed to roam freely throughout the house.
Peter had many friends who will remember him devotedly for his insightful conversations, solid and dependable nature, super-computer brain power, non-judgmental and kind heart, balanced views, humble and down-to-earth attitude, love of all things Tesla, easy laugh, and welcoming personality. He had an open, insatiably inquisitive mind that seemed without limits, and he was socially progressive, scientifically-minded, and genuinely interested in the opinions of others.
Peter is survived by his father, Steven Zakrzewski, his brother Chris Zakrzewski, his wife Claudia, and his children, Justin and Amelie. He is predeceased by his mother, June Hamilton (née Semple) and his stepfather, Carl Hamilton.
