Mary Poprawa

It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved Mom to daughters Elizabeth (Mervin Doud) and Stephanie, Grandmother to Sarah, Marcy, Kaitlin, Jovanna and Karlena and 4 Great-grandchildren, on January 30, 2024 in her 96th year.

Mom was born in the small country village of Jozefow Poland. She emigrated to Canada in 1948 docking in Halifax Harbour after passage aboard the cargo vessel Marine Falcon, originating from Germany, post W.W. 2.

Her journey and new life continued across Canada by train, disembarking in Jasper Alberta where she immediately began work. This fresh start after leaving war torn Europe began the new chapter of life, meeting our Dad, Stanislaw her true love.

Settling in the CN Railway community of Red Pass BC amongst a wonderful union of friends, 2 daughters were born. Hard work and saving enabled the settling in Fort Langley 2 years later. Our parents remained in their home until Dad's passing in 1977 and Mom moving to Langley in 2022 after 66 years.

Mom was the master of delicious pierogi's and borscht. Many fresh ingredients were from a productive vegetable garden flanked by incredible flower gardens in the front and back yard.

Her energy and strength was admirable. Mom was a member of the Fort Langley 50+ Club, enjoying social activities, attending functions and exercising her sense of humor amongst friends.

She worked physically hard throughout her life and attributed much of her longevity to these functions.

Mom's spirituality never left her side. Her Parish was an integral part of her life. She continued walking several blocks to attend Mass as recent as this past December. She had donated time volunteering for the Soup Kitchen as well.

Mom will be remembered for her love of family and friends, upkeep of her beautiful gardens, families pets, strength and "Get up and go".

Funeral Service will be held

10:30 a.m. Friday Feb 09, 2024 at St Joseph's Catholic Church, Langley BC

Reception in the Parish Hall 11:30 a.m.

Interment to follow 1:30 p.m.
