Born in the Glen Adelaide District in Saskatchewan, Marjorie was the oldest child of the Harvey and Alice Hancock family. Marjorie was predeceased by her parents, her brothers Bob Hancock, Bill Hancock and Noel Hancock, her sister Eleanor Dever, her husband Albert Cantin and her son David Cantin.
Marjorie is survived by her sisters Nora Zelter, Barb (Brian) Haynen, her brother Rick (Brenda) Hancock, her children, Donna (Stephen) Bennett, Ariel Cantin, Gerry (Donalyn) Cantin and Richard (Lesley) Cantin, along with her grandchildren, Kristina (Caleb) Bennett-Hansen, Alec Bennett, Alanna Bennett, Shea (Rob) Cantin-Young, Jackson Cantin, Wyatt Cantin and Max Cantin.
MB’s (Mama Bear), two biggest loves were her sports and of course her family.
Her favourite sports were curling (playing and watching), tennis, baseball and CFL football. She would often drag her lawn chair to the baseball diamond across the street from her house in Winnipeg to watch whatever game was scheduled that night. As far as sports teams her favourites were the Toronto Blue Jays and her beloved Winnipeg Blue Bombers.
As far as family MB gave us all a perfect example of what grace, dignity and a never-ending commitment to her family looked like. From virtually the day that she was born she devoted herself to doing what was best for those that she loved. This meant not finishing grade school so that she could work and make ends meet for her family, this meant helping her siblings achieve all of their goals by providing encouragement and a place to live, and of course it meant dedicating herself absolutely to her husband, children and grandchildren who absolutely adored her. She wanted to ensure that she did everything she could to make their lives as fulfilled as possible. MB will truly be missed by all of those that had the pleasure to know her.
We’d like to wish a special thank you to the staff of the West Shore Laylum long term care home for their dedicated care of our Mother over her final months.
Flowers are gratefully declined, but if you wish a donation to a charity of your choice in the name of Marjorie Cantin, that would be appreciated by the family.
A time to celebrate the life of Marjorie has not yet been chosen, but this will be announced as soon as this date, time and place is set.
