Lorna Elizabeth Allen, affectionately known as Betty to all who knew her, was born on May 15, 1939, in Chilliwack BC. She peacefully passed away on October 25, 2023, at Langley Lodge after a brave battle with dementia.
Betty married Bud Allen in 1958, and after a start in Surrey moved to West Langley and remained there for the rest of her life. She worked as a clerk at Burnaby Health, and then at as an assessor at Canada Revenue Agency (CRA). (The latter never sitting well with her husband). She retired in 1990, and then devoted herself to her many volunteer activities.
Throughout her life, Betty was a kind and dedicated volunteer. She had a passion for serving others, a talent for organization and finance, and an ability to lead with a towel. She served on school PACs, volunteered at Langley Memorial Hospital, Native Daughters, the BC Genealogical Society, and Port Kells Church. She supported over a dozen other charitable organizations.
Betty had two lifetime hobbies: quilting/sewing, and genealogy. She taught many how to quilt at the PK church quilting club, which then donated many of the quilts to families in Langley. She not only researched her own history, but volunteered as a research librarian for others until she was 78. She was intelligent, confident, capable, and energetic, kind, self-controlled, and compassionate.
Family always brought joy to her life. Betty was predeceased by her beloved husband in 2004, and by her son Jim in 2018. She is survived by her son Doug and his wife Gayle; by her three grandchildren, Alison (Matt), Thomas (Eren), and Emily (Matt); and by her five great-grandchildren.
A faithful member of the Port Kells Community Church for many years, Betty found solace and strength in her unwavering belief in her Savior, Jesus Christ. Her faith was a guiding light, providing comfort and purpose throughout her life.
Betty's memory will forever remain in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing her. Her commitment to service, her love for her family, and her unwavering faith will not be soon forgotten.
A celebration of a life well-lived will be held at Port Kells Community Church, November 18th at 2:30pm.
