John passed away peacefully at home with his family by his side after a lengthy battle with cancer. He is survived by his wife of 58 years Thelma, sons Michael (Stephanie) and Marcel, grandchildren Alecia, Desiree and Ashley, 3 step grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, 1 step grand-daughter and a great grand-daughter who is due in January.
John was predeceased by his parents Marie-Jeanne and Jean-Charles of Timmins, Ontario. John is survived by his brothers Raymond, Leo and Gilbert along with many nieces and nephews.
John retired in 2001 after a 37 year career with the Federal Public Service. Throughout his adult life, John worked as a volunteer, starting with coaching and refereeing minor league hockey. In more recent years, John became a facilitator and regional coordinator for the SMART Recovery Program and as a support person for Laryngectomy patients.
John loved working on his farm and took great joy in maintaining the property and buildings contained within. John was actively involved in many sports throughout his life but his true passion was playing as a hockey goaltender and was known as “Johnny the Goalie” among his friends. Some of his best memories in hockey included playing the for the Langley Old Crocs hockey team into his 70’s and the times the Old Crocs played the Montreal Canadien Oldtimers. After hanging up his skates and goalie pads, he became passionate about cycling with local clubs.
At the request of John, there will not be a service. Donations in his memory can be made to the BC Cancer Foundation.
