Robert H. Morehead, born in Guysville, Ohio, December 24, 1923, age 100, passed away on Monday, October 28, at Main Street Terrace, Lancaster. Robert was a 75 year member of the First United Methodist Church. He is survived by his 3 children, Kathy (Dick) Daubmire, David (Karen) Morehead, and Janice (Ed) Figgins; 9 grandchildren, Ben Daubmire (Jill Hedges), Doug (Devon) Figgins, Bruce Morehead, Jeff (Heather) Morehead, Heidi Tootle, Allison (Brad) Bishop, AJ Armstrong, Amanda Armstrong, and Abby Armstrong (Zachary Grimme); 3 great grandchildren, Katlyn (Ron) Walling, Jamie McGill, Austin Tootle; and 1 great great grandchild, Mason Walling. He is also survived by one sister, Virginia Jones, and one sister-in-law, Maxine Smith; plus many nieces and nephews. Robert was preceded in death by his loving wife of 63 years, Wanda, who passed in 2009, his parents Benjamin Homer and Ina Morehead, sister, Melba Johnson, infant daughter, Jean Ann, and special friend, Sis Muckensturm. When Robert was a young man, he was chosen to attend Buckeye Boys State. He also delivered papers and worked in his Dad’s general store in Amesville. In 1943 he joined the Army Air Corps and served as Sergeant of the 60th Army Airways Communications Group during World War II stationed in Alaska and received an honorable discharge in 1946. He was a proud 60 year member of American Legion, Post 11. He graduated from Ohio University and eventually spent a long career with Metropolitan Life Insurance Company as representative, assistant manager, and agency manager. He and Wanda attended several Honor Club trips for his outstanding record of sales. He retired in 1982 and did some part time work for Jackson National Life but particularly enjoyed traveling with Wanda to Florida, Gatlinburg, travels through the US western states, to Europe, to Amish Country and many other places, as well as enjoying playing golf. Friends may call 11AM to 1PM Friday November 1, 2024 at Halteman Fett & Dyer Funeral Home, Lancaster. Funeral services will be held 1:00 PM at the funeral home with Pastor Nikki Baker officiating. Burial will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery with military rights by the American Legion. Contributions may be made in Robert’s memory to First United Methodist Church, Fairhope Hospice or Main Street Terrace Care Center. The family would like to give special thanks to his caregiver and dear friend, Jodi Recchi, and to the wonderful staff at Main Street Terrace for their friendship and loving care.
