Mildred (Mid) M. (Hays) Smith age 96 of Lancaster went to be with her Lord and Savior on March 28, 2021. Mildred served in World War II in the Women’s Army Corp (WAC) and was a Lancaster school bus driver for27 years. Mildred was born on February 1, 1925 in Lancaster, Ohio, the daughter of the late Rev. Ray and Hilda (Speakman) Mann.
Mildred enjoyed playing cards, painting pictures and was a lifelong pet lover. She also enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grand-children.
She is survived by her son Steve (Mary Ann) Hays, of South Carolina; daughter Brenda (Jim) Marcus of Lancaster; grandson Brad (Merridee) Hays of South Carolina; granddaughter Kimberly Marcus of Logan; granddaughter Angela (Jeff) Sullins of North Carolina; great-grandchildren, Zachery Marcus of Lancaster, Michael Eades of Lancaster, Arianna Hays of South Carolina, step great grandchildren, Aiden Hatton and Nolan Hatton of South Carolina.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 34 years, Frank T. Hays; and her husband of 10 years Howard J. Smith; her parents Rev. Ray and Hilda ( Speakman) Mann; son Grant Robert Hays; and brother Russell E. Mann.
The family wishes to thank the staff at The Ridge of Lancaster and Fairhope hospice staff for the loving care given to Mildred.
Private Graveside Services are to be held at Maple Grove Cemetery, under the care of HALTEMAN-FETT & DYER FUNERAL HOME. A Celebration of Mildred’s Life is to be announced at a later date.
