Mary Alice Lowther, age 99, passed away on April 19, 2022 at Westerwood (formerly Friendship Village), Columbus, Ohio. She was born on November 29, 1922 to Wallace and Florene Barr, Amanda, Ohio. She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard E. Lowther, brother Wallace (Doris) Barr Jr. and sisters Nora Jane (Bill) Rutherford and Joan Smith (Royal) Beguhl. She graduated from Amanda High School in 1940. She was a retired secretary from the Lancaster School system. After retirement she was an active member of the Lancaster Rose Guild, the Lancaster Kennel Cub and Columbus all-Breed Dog training club as a volunteer instructor. She enjoyed showing her dogs in many Obedience Trials.
She moved to Friendship Village Columbus in 1998 where she was an active volunteer and chimes player. She was a long time member of Grace United Church of Christ in Lancaster and after moving to Columbus attended Central College Presbyterian Church, Westerville, Ohio
She is survived by a son, Dr. Gerald E. (Andrya) Lowther, McCormick S. Carolina, daughter, Susanne Kaye Lowther, Lancaster, Ohio and Peggy (James) Merton, Lancaster, Ohio She is also survived by four grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
A family graveside service will be held on Monday April 25th at Amanda Township Cemetery. A Celebration of her Life will take place at a later date.
