Lucy “Jean” Valentine, 77, of Lancaster passed away on Friday, April 21, 2023 at the Pickering House. Jean was born on June 25, 1945 in Union County, TN to the late Claude Haynes and Lena (McDowell) Schmidt. When first moving to Ohio, Jean worked as a beautician then moved on to work at Big Bear where she became the deli manager. After her time at Big Bear, she became an independent caterer. Jean would often cater private events at Valley View Golf Club as well as many weddings and parties across multiple states. But, her most important job was being Grammy to her beloved grandchildren, grand-doggers and grand-cats. Jean was also a member of the women's auxiliary at The American Legion and a longtime member of the Rushville Grange.
Jean is survived by her children, Selena (Jeffrey) Abbott and Jerry (Tera) Valentine; grandchildren, Bradley D. Abbott, Caleb J. Abbott, Hannah B. (Ben) Kempton, Desirée M. Abbott (Jason), Jeffrey W. Abbott, Jr. (Kimberly), Jason J.T. Valentine, Christian Valentine, Kaydence Valentine, Tori Valentine and Savana Valentine; and great grandchild, Lauryn Abbott; many nieces and nephews; and many friends that she dearly loved like family.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John R. Valentine; son, Jason S. Valentine; and her parents.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, April 28, 2023 at 1PM at HALTEMAN-FETT & DYER FUNERAL HOME with Pastor Charles Wheatley officiating. Burial will follow at Stukey Cemetery in Sugar Grove. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Friday from 11 AM-1 PM.
