Gerald McMillen

Gerald (Gerry) McMillen (93) of Lancaster (formerly of Carroll) was called home to be with the Lord on Thursday, January 27th, 2022. Gerald was born to Charles McMillen and Elizabeth Cordellia Teichert McMillen on March 6th,1928, at Beulah Park Horse Racetrack where his family resided. Growing up, Gerald and his family moved many times from horse farm to horse farm in Ohio. He graduated from Grove City, joined the Army in 1946, and was stationed in Korea. Upon returning to the States, Gerald went to business college in Lancaster and worked for Sharp and Dohme in Columbus, OH. Later, he went to work at Columbus and Southern Ohio Electric Company (AEP) where he worked as an accountant for 40 years. It was there that he met his wife Barbara Ruth Nevil to whom he was married for 66 years.Gerald and Barbara lived on a farm in Greencastle for over 50 years where he cultivated his passions for gardening and Morgan horses which touched every member of the family. Gerald also participated in the community, impacting many lives as a Boy Scout leader (Asbury Methodist Church) and Chiron 4H Advisor. Gerald pursued his love of the Lord as a longtime member at Fairfield Christian Church in Lancaster. Gerald was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Jim, Larry, and Jay McMillen. Gerald was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He is survived by the love of his life Barbara; his daughters, Brenda (Bill) McWhorter of Carroll; and Rhonda (Richard) McMillen of Granville; his grandchildren Heather Aller, Lauren (Paul) Crumrine, Brittany Aller and Gerret McWhorter (Kassie); and his great grandchildren Michael, Walter, and Monroe; his brother-in-law Charles Nevil; sister-in-law Ligia and niece Katherine; and many other close relatives and friends. A celebration of Gerald’s life will be held this spring or early summer.
