Fay (Euphemia) Fisher Ziels, age 93, passed on November 15, 2018 at Lanfair Nursing Home. She was born in Methil Scotland on July 28, 1925, to Agnes and John Fisher. She grew up in this North Sea town during the second world war. After completing her schooling, she took a position in the Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS) in Levin Scotland. After a couple of years, she emigrated to Windsor Ontario to take a teller position in the Royal Bank of Canada (RBC). Next, she became the private secretary to the Counsel General at the British Consulate in Chicago Illinois. There she met and married the love of her life, Burton D. Ziels, over 61 years ago.
She is survived by her loving husband and son David F. Ziels, of Columbus Ohio, his girlfriend Alice Kelley, brother and sister-in-law David L. and Lois Ziels in Hamilton, Ohio, and many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents.
After marriage she became a mother and housewife, and was involved in many volunteer activities, such as helping out in the Montessori school for preschoolers in Decatur, Illinois.
She moved to Lancaster, Ohio with her husband and son in 1968 and became involved with Twig II of the Fairfield Medical Center, eventually becoming manager of the Twig II thrift shop for a year. She also worked as a volunteer for Red Cross blood drives and at the Cerebral Palsy and Disabilities Center. After her husband’s retirement, both became heavily involved in golf organizations, volunteering at many Columbus District Golf Association events at Lancaster Country Club. She also organized many events for the non-golfing spouses at Great Lakes Seniors Golf Association tournaments around the country.
She enjoyed traveling around the US and Canada, visiting national parks, her favorite being Glacier National Park in Montana. She also made many trips back to Scotland with family and friends.
Per her wishes, there will be no visitation or funeral services. There will be a gathering of family and friends at a future date. Final arrangements and cremation are being handled by Halteman-Fett & Dyer Funeral Home.
