Douglas Ray Barr, age 51 of Pleasantville passed away Sunday February 27, 2011, at Fairfield Medical Center surrounded by family and friends. Doug is survived by his children: Zachary, daughter and son-in-law Kaylee (Anthony) Wiscecup, wife Kandy Barr, his mother Julia Barr, granddaughter Alexa, brothers: Brad, Keith (Jamie) Barr, nephew Jordan Barr and niece Rylee Barr, father and mother-in-law, Mr. & Mrs. Robert Young, sisters and brothers-in-law: Kathy (John) Burge, Bobby (Melissa) Young, Konny (Norm) Wilson, Ronny (Suzanne) Young, Kristi (Cory) Thompson, Kelly (Kristin) Young, Rod (Angie) Young, many nieces and nephews.
Doug was preceded in death by his father David Barr.
Doug was currently serving as Assistant Fire Chief at Violet Township Fire Department and was a 15 year volunteer Fire Fighter at Pleasantville. He was a two term Fairfield Union Board Member, taught L.D. at Fairfield Union High School and P.E. at the Pleasantville Elementary School. He was involved with the “Big Brothers and Sisters” organization
Funeral services will be held 10:00 A.M. Thursday, March 3rd , at the Faith Memorial Church 2610 West Fair Ave., Lancaster, Ohio, with Rev. Gerrie Lampton officiating. Burial will be at Hampson Cemetery, Pleasantville. Friends may call 2:00-8:00 P.M. Wednesday, March 2 at the HALTEMAN-FETT & DYER FUNERAL HOME.
Funeral services will be followed by a meal at the Pleasant Twp. Firehouse with a meal provided by the Pleasantville and Thornville United Methodist Churches.
The family wants to thank fire Chief John Eisel and the Violet Township Fire Department. They were an important part of Doug’s life and a big support to the family through this difficult time.
Thanks to the Fairfield Medical Center Hospital and staff, they were very professional but at the same time very kind and comforting to the family.
