She graduated from Stratford Hall in Danville, VA, where she majored in Music. She was invited regularly by the American Red Cross to entertain at the Veterans Hospitals during WWII and corresponded with many of the wounded soldiers for years after they left the hospital. She then attended Centre College in Danville, KY for two years. While attending Centre she was asked to sing at a number of the area Presbyterian Churches as a representative for Centre College; she also was a soloist for a Christian program on one of the local Danville radio stations. She met Jeremy Tipton (an Air Force veteran and WWII POW) in Danville, KY and they married in November 1948. They were very proud of their son Bruce, also an Air Force veteran, and daughter Lynn, who worked at The Ohio State University’s Byrd Polar and Climate Research Center for 35+ years. Because of her husband’s business, they lived in several states during their marriage giving Charlotte the opportunity of being an executive secretary for numerous people. It also gave her the opportunity of being blessed with knowing people of various religions and races and allowed her to become involved the activities of many communities. Upon arriving in Lancaster, she immediately became involved as a volunteer for the Georgian Museum which continued for over 45 years. She also was President of the Fairfield Garden Club, President of the Fairfield County Extension Club, enjoyed being a member the Red Glad Hatter group in Lancaster, and was an active member of St. John’s Episcopal Church and Olivedale Seniors. When she was not volunteering, she was tending to her yard, writing letters to friends, or ensuring her home was ready to entertain the next unexpected visitor. She is preceded in death by her husband, Jeremy Cole Tipton, her parents, Roy and Charlotte (Bell) Hardesty, and her sister, Betty (Hardesty) Singleton. She is survived by her son, Bruce L.
