Charles M. McKnight, age 88, went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Saturday, January 13, 2024. He was born in Nelsonville, Ohio to Virgil and Cora McKnight on October 3, 1935. He was one of seven children. Charles graduated from Buchtel-York High School. After graduation, he joined the United States Marine Corp where he received meritorious rank and honors for expert swimmer and marksman. Charles married Rita Hartman in 1960. They had two daughters, Diane (Jeff) Sherlock and Sharon (Ed) Simons, one special adopted daughter Susan Later, and one grandchild Evan Charles Simons. Charles was a devoted husband, father, and very beloved grandpa. He loved being an uncle to many nieces and nephews. In addition to his devotion and love for his family, Charles was a firm believer in God and an active member of the former Lancaster First Church of the Nazarene where he was active in bus ministry, Sells Road Outreach Ministry, a Sunday School Teacher, Nursing Home Ministry, Jail Ministry and served many years as a trustee on the church board. He is currently a member of the Hope Community Church of the Nazarene. He will always be remembered as an example of a man with an unwavering faith in God. Charles was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Virgil, Melvin and James and three sisters, Gyneth, Helen, and Ruth Ann. His memory will be cherished and kept alive by his adoring family and many nieces and nephews. The McKnight family would like to say a special thank you to Dr. James Wellbaum II MD and Angel McClellan RN for the wisdom, compassion and kindness shown to Charles and Rita McKnight. In addition, we would like to express our gratitude to Fairhope Hospice for their exceptional care during this difficult time. Visitation will be at Halteman-Fett and Dyer Funeral Home in Lancaster, Ohio on Friday, January 19, 2024 from 5-7 PM and the funeral service will begin at 11 AM at Hope Community Church of the Nazarene with Reverend Ed Simons, Reverend Ed True and Reverend Kevin Seymour officiating on Saturday, January 20, 2024 in Carroll, Ohio with calling from 10-11 AM at the church. Charles will be laid to rest at Stukey Cemetery in Sugar Grove, Ohio following the funeral service.
