Betty Jane (Bowles) went to be with the Lord on July 4, 2024, at the age of 93, at her residence in Lancaster, Ohio. She was born on May 23, 1931 in Haydenville, Ohio. She was the daughter of Shirley Hansford (Hank) Bowles and Regenia (Thacker) Bowles. She was the fifth child of seven children.
Betty Jane Bowles married Don Robert Clark on January 19, 1951. Together they had two children, Mindy Clark-Atwood and Jeffrey Alan Clark.
She was preceded in death by John Bowles - infant brother, Regenia (Thacker) Bowles -mother, Shirley Hansford "Hank'' Bowles -father, Kitty (Bowles) Miller - sister, Leola (Bowles) McQuilken ¬sister, Kathleen (Bowles) Burns -sister, Judy (Bowles) Durant -sister, "Little" Jerry Crothers ¬nephew, Fred "Butch" Durant - nephew, and Bill Anderson -nephew.
She is survived by Mindy Clark-Atwood- daughter, Jeffrey Clark -son (Sharon), Janis (Bowles) Crothers ¬sister, Sean Atwood -grandson (Samantha), Chris Atwood- grandson (Jen), Wesley Clark - grandson (Abby), Sarah (Clark) Rarick ·granddaughter (Brent), Regenia Crothers - niece, Debbie (Durant) Luchtenberg - niece (Steve), John Anderson - nephew (Barb), Mike Crothers -nephew (Missy), and Ayva Applegate - great-granddaughter.
Betty began her working career at the office of the NATCO Clay Co. in Haydenville. Ohio. She moved to a position at Aberdeen Proving Ground in Maryland, to be with her husband, Don, who was serving in the military, at the time. Later, she spent the majority of her career as a Fleet Leasing Manager in the automotive industry.
Betty always made family her top priority. She enjoyed boating with her husband, her family, and friends, travel in the US and abroad, and rock collecting in the mountains. She was creative in the kitchen and could "whip up something from nothing" anytime. She loved going out to dinner and never missed an opportunity to have lunch or dinner with family or friends. She had an uncanny sense of humor, loved to take drives in the country, and read books from her extensive home library every evening. She was a member of the Lithopolis United Methodist Church and was active in the Ladies Circle group. She was also a member of Lancaster Twig #17 and had served as prior president, and volunteered on a regular basis at the bookstore. She was greatly loved and will be greatly missed by family, friends, Helen Cicatiello (her trusted caregiver and friend) and all of her friends at the Twig bookstore, and church.
Funeral Services will be held on Friday, July 12, 2024 at 1PM at the HALTEMAN-FETT & DYER FUNERAL HOME (436 N Broad St Lancaster, OH 43130). Entombment will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Rockbridge, OH. Visitation will be held on Friday from 11AM-1PM at the funeral home.
