Wanda took her last breath on January 30, 2018 surrounded by faith and love. She was a generous and vibrant woman with a strong personality, who made friends easily with people and animals alike. Born in August 1931 in Flagstaff, Ariz. Wanda spent her childhood and early adult life in the Central Valley of California. She married Allen T. Walker in July 1949, starting a family then moving to Edwards Air Force Base in 1960.
In late 1964 she moved to Lancaster, Calif., working for Los Angeles County from 1965 and then becoming one of the first employees in the newly incorporated City of Lancaster, until retiring in 1997. She was proud of the city and her work on many projects, including the inception of Lancaster City Park, the poppy festival, and as a founding supporter of the Lancaster Performing Arts Center (LPAC). In her spare time, Wanda took joy in counseling others, while encouraging and celebrating their achievement and learning.
After enjoying her life in Lancaster, she moved to San Clemente, Calif. in 2010 where she was embraced as "grandma" to many. After declining health, she moved to Silverado Memory Care facility in San Juan Capistrano, Calif.
Wanda will be dearly missed by her family, including two daughters, Kathie (Dan) and Debbie (Howard), two grandchildren, Kristen (Erik) and Danny (Kathy), 6 great grandchildren, and 8 great great grandchildren. Wanda anticipated her final journey, confident to be dancing in heaven with loved ones who have gone before her. Philippian 4:9.
Services and internment will be held at Joshua Memorial Park and Mortuary, Saturday February 10,2018 at 11:00 a.m., reception following. In lieu of flowers, contributions in her name are welcomed to the Alzheimer's Foundation or the Humane Society.
