Verna Lee was born January 26, 1935, in Toledo Ohio, the third child to Martha Mae and Samuel Miller. Baptized at an early age and raised in a Christian home, her foundation of God, Family, and Church was truly instilled within her. The family relocated in the 1940s to Detroit Michigan where she completed her education at Northwestern High School.
On July 5, 1951, Verna Lee married Oliver Adams. Blessed with six beautiful children, Anthony (Tony), Olivia (Bonnie), Gregory, Alexis, Alison and Darryl, Verna was totally devoted to being a wife and mother. She especially enjoyed the vacations to the lakes in Northern Michigan and family outings.
As life would have it Verna encountered many adversities from January 1970 through October 1971, Verna lost her husband Oliver, both sisters Otholene and Indeola, father Samuel Miller and grandfather Alexander Johnson. The loss of her sister resulted in her raising her niece, Kimberly as her own. Verna’s seven children and her mother became her top priority. Her faith in God became her anchor.
In a time when life was tough for a single woman with seven children. Verna remained to be the source of strength for her family, being that pillar that everyone leaned on. Having lost a lot of members in her immediate family, she became incredibly resilient. She found ways to find meaning and made the most of every minute that she had on earth while providing a very nice life for her children.
Verna remained in Detroit Michigan as her children grew into adulthood and became successful in their own lives. In 1994 after burying her mother, she relocated to California where she remained still nurturing and caring for her children, grand-children and great grand-children as well as their friends.
Verna was known for her feisty personality. She enjoyed being surrounded by her family and loved listening to music and going to the Motown reviews, cooking big family dinners while nurturing and caring for those around her. Verna was one of the church mothers of Lighthouse Miracle Christian Center. She loved going to Bible study and Sunday service, and being part of the choir.
Verna leaves a legacy of blessings to all those that she inspired, touched and cared for with complete dedication. Her legacy of undying love, strength and the ability to overcome adversities and her courage will stand the test of time.
She leaves to mourn her passing her children, Anthony (Zellie), Olivia, Gregory (preceding her in death) (Marilyn), Alexis, Alison, Darryl (Francine), Kimberly (Tommy).
