Rodrigo Lespron Ayala was born in Los Angeles on April 1st, 1949 to Rafael and Gloria Ayala. He was the 3rd of 8 children. He passed away on January 10th, 2024, less than 2 months after his beloved wife Diana passed away. He is survived by his 2 children Angel & Tiana, and his 2 grandchildren Abigail & Violet.
After going to school in both the US and Mexico, Rodrigo graduated from high school in 1967. He honorably served as helicopter side gunner and mechanic in the US Army beginning in 1969. He was involved in several rescue missions behind enemy lines until 1971, when he was injured by gunfire during the Vietnam War.
Rodrigo met his wife Diana at the age of 8. He lived across the street and was good friends with her brothers. As they got older, they fell in love. They were married on December 18th, 1976. On March 6th, 1978, they welcomed their first child, Angel. Just over a year later, on July 31st 1979, their daughter Tiana was born.
Rodrigo’s hobbies included camping, hunting & working on cars. He also loved playing his guitar. He even had a band while living in Mexico. He was often the life of the party, playing his guitar and singing with everyone at family gatherings. He was also a hard worker. From working as a shoe shiner at 10 years old, working at the Grand Central Market in downtown LA, as a diesel mechanic, or as a nurse assistant at the VA Hospital, he always went above and beyond.
Upon retirement from the VA in 2014, he used his free time to relax and enjoy another hobby, watching his favorite game shows & sports teams, the Dodgers, Raiders, and Lakers. He also devoted more time to his faith, getting baptized as a Jehovah’s Witness.
Rodrigo was known for his friendliness and generosity, as well as his kindness to others. He always remained very close to his siblings, looking out for them and helping in their times of need. He will be greatly missed by everyone who knew and loved him.
A visitation for Rodrigo will be held Saturday, February 3, 2024 from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Joshua Memorial Park & Mortuary, 808 East Lancaster Blvd, Lancaster, CA 93535, followed by a funeral service from 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM.
