On September 14th, 2021, Los Angeles Airport Police Officer III Michael "Razz" Rasmussen was killed in a tragic motorcycle accident just after departing the police station located at LAX Airport; on his way home from work. He was a 24 year veteran of the Los Angeles Airport Police and served in the United States Air Force. His smile, and duty to services were always unmatched. His dedication to his family, friends, and community was unwavering.
Officer Rasmussen was born in Concord, California, on September 25, 1966. He served six years in the United States Air Force as a crash rescue firefighter and during that time was deployed to Saudi Arabia as part of Operation Desert Storm. After serving with the Air Force, he began his career with the City of Los Angeles in 1997 where his training as a crash rescue firefighter prepared him for the job as an Airport Safety Officer (ASO) assigned to Ontario International Airport. The job of an ASO is the best of both public safety worlds, being trained as both a police officer and a firefighter. Along with the other assigned ASOs at Ontario, Razz continued his law enforcement career when he was reassigned to LAX Airport as an Airport Police Officer and was assigned to the Crisis Intervention Team (the CIT) in 2019 until his passing.
Although he worked in Los Angeles and was surrounded by Dodgers fans, Mike remained a huge San Francisco Giants fans and enjoyed stoking the rivalry between the two teams. Mike was a great athlete and loved playing both softball and baseball, and participating in several police and fire Olympics and world games. He was also an avid golfer and loved wake boarding and spending time with family and friends on his boat.
He leaves behind devastated family members: daughters, Averi and Rielly, mother Jeannine, sister Laura and her fiancé Metin, wife Cindie, her three sons Jared, Evan and Austin (wife Megan), and grandson Adam. He was preceded in death by his father Roger. His sudden and untimely passing is a tragic blow to his immediate family as well as his extended airport police, fire, Air Force, baseball/softball and golf families.
