Esther Mae Jones

Esther Mae Jones was born to the union of Carlton and Mary Sylvester on November 25, 1922 in Port Barre, Louisiana. Esther, age 96, passed away peacefully on Monday, April 22, 2019. Esther was the oldest of ten siblings. She attended Charlton Pollard High School in Beaumont, Texas. Her first marriage was to Garfield Pollard and from that union she had five children. She later married Willie Lee Jones in Beaumont, Texas but eventually moved to Los Angeles, California after the untimely death of her first son. When Esther moved to Los Angeles she worked as a sous-chef and in addition maid at the historic Beverly Wilshire Hotel where she retired . Esther truly loved God and her church family. She spent a lifetime serving in ministry within hospitality as a Deaconess and Choir member for the First West Angeles Church of God in Christ and Mount Calvary Community Church. She truly loved the Lord and did not waiver in her walk with him; she would always say "Do the Book". Esther was a true prayer warrior for God. She had a very quiet moving and sweet spirit. She is survived by 5 siblings, Della Williams, Leola Limbrick, Stella Mae Guidry Margie Seals, Mary Mays and Kerry Sylvester; her two children, Edmond Jones and Darlene Wells; and five grandchildren Eric Taylor Briget Richard, Eddie Jones, Kevin Jones, and Randy Jones; 18 great grandchildren; a host of great great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and extended family and friends.
